Gregory Miller trained under Living National Treasure Shimaoka Tatsuzo in Mashiko, Japan, bringing a deeply considered approach to teaching rooted in the Japanese concept of minarai — learning by watching and doing.
This one-day workshop is an opportunity to experience Japanese throwing traditions first-hand, guided by someone who has lived and worked within them.
The day will cover a range of techniques including throwing off the hump, turning, and altering forms focusing on asymmetry. Gregory teaches by example and works at the pace of the group, so students of all levels within the prerequisite range are welcome.
