Gregory Miller trained under Living National Treasure Shimaoka Tatsuzo in Mashiko, Japan, bringing a deeply considered approach to teaching rooted in the Japanese concept of minarai — learning by watching and doing.

This one-day workshop is an opportunity to experience Japanese hand-building traditions first-hand, guided by someone who has lived and worked within them.

The day will cover a range of techniques including coil-built teacups and bowls, kurinuki (carving form from a solid block of clay), and slab techniques. Gregory teaches by example and works at the pace of the group, so students of all levels within the prerequisite range are welcome.
