Throwing BIG | 3-Day Course

  • Wellington Potters Association 130 Grant Road Thorndon New Zealand (map)

Learn to throw big!

This 3-day workshop (October 25, 26 & 27) is designed for potters who want to explore making larger forms on the wheel. Students will learn how to throw in sections, starting with two smaller pieces of clay stacked one on top of the other, and then build upward from the base.

We’ll cover a range of techniques for throwing manageable sections and joining them securely, allowing students to create larger vessels by combining multiple parts.

The workshop is open to all levels of throwing experience. However, participants must be able to centre clay and work at the wheel independently, as this is not a beginner class.

Materials and tools

10-20 kg your preferred type of clay. Make sure you bring to class a type of clay you have used before and feel comfortable working with. It is not good idea to try new types of clay during the weekend workshop. Porcelain clay is not recommended for this type of work.
