Photography for Potters w/ Mel Waite | 2-hour Workshop

  • Wellington Potters Association 130 Grant Road Thorndon New Zealand (map)

Want to learn how to get consistently great photos of your creations, be if for selling your work, submitting for exhibitions and awards or just having an amazing instagram feed?

This is the class for you! Mel is going to fill your brain with as much photographic learning as your brain can take in 2 hours :)

What's covered:
Mel will walk you through the fundamentals of light and lighting, including how to use both natural and artificial light to best effect. She'll show you how to set up a simple, easy-to-assemble mini studio perfect for photographing pots, covering the materials you'll need and where to find them. You'll also learn how to choose the right backgrounds, lighting, and angles to show your work at its best, and how to troubleshoot the most common problems people run into when photographing ceramics.

You will also be taught how to choose the right background, lighting and angles to best display for pieces and how to fix many of the basic problems people have when photographing pots.

Time permitting, there will be a hands-on element — so bring a piece you'd like to photograph and your camera.

Goals of Class:
By the end of the class, students will have a solid understanding of the basics of photographing pottery, including how to set up a simple mini studio, how to use natural and continuous artificial light effectively, and how to troubleshoot common issues.

No prior experience is required! This class is suitable for complete beginners in both photography and pottery.
